MAKEUP ARTIST THE NEW PROFESSION IN INDIA
Every girl is dreaming to become a MUA these days in India. In last 3 to 4 years if you have seen with the trend of bridal makeup artist, the makeup industry has become saturated with mua's. Just completing the course of 5 days to 2 months one can become a certified MUA .
Did you guys noticed that each and every mua is taking courses these days ?
Have you guys really researched how many mua's are being added to the industry every month ?
So let me just give an example .
Suppose their are 500 mua's and each one is taking their private professional courses with a batch of 10 students , avg days to complete course is 15 days . So 500 x 10 x2 (assuming 2 batches per month of 15 days ) = 5000 students per month.
How many new Mua's get jobs or internships to enhance their skills ?
Hardly few. Or you go for paid internship where you pay to be an intern in other well known mua's , like you pay for the work you will be doing for others. BIG LOL.
So my next question as why every MUA is teaching and sharing her experience and spilling her secrets ?
1. They have enough experience , customers and publicity that by sharing their secrets and experience will not hamper their work.
2. Seeing the trend and excitement of all girls who want to become MUA due to social media exposure , this is a very easy encash business .
example:
Top Makeup artist Academy offering their course for 15 days is charging around Avg. 1 lakhs for a batch of 15 students
1 lakh x 15 students = 15 lakhs rupees
Cost of products used for 1 batch of students around 1 lakh rupees
Plus other cost like rent , water , helpers, senior artist as helpers etc not more than 2L for 1 batch
So income earned in 15 days time - around 10L ( minimum)
So monthly Fixed income for every MUA taking courses is around 10 L minimum even for muas charging 50k to 80k .
3. They are getting additional publicity of their work and they can practice and experiment more on batch students.
The more number of students the more publicity , the more customers .
Learning an art is not bad at all it is a stress buster for sure and girls love doing makeup it gives their confidence a boost. Its good if you want to learn completely for your ownself and yess for those who aspire to become MUAs and work its good for them too. But as all Senior MUAs says you need to WORK HARD to create your own space in the industry the struggle is for real.
I personally thought of taking up the course and becoming a MUA but then ? I questioned myself :|. I whether Iwant to take it professionally or not ? Is it just an attraction towards the easy money option I am seeing ? Is it really that easy to be a mua ? Whether I will get work? Do I have enough Social links? Whether I am ready to make my private social networking profiles public ?
How much investment will go in initial learning ? not just makeup basics , but you will need to learn hairstyling , drapping , and airbrush makeup so another investment of 1 to 2 lakhs
over all time and investment not less than 3 lakhs and 4 to 6 months . :| ?
So to calm my horses I took a personal makeup class where I learned a few basic looks understood whether my hands are working or not. My attraction to become a makeup artist reduced a bit. lol
Now next was I can be a YouTuber lol . The research for being a YouTuber is on .
But I am not demotivating anyone this is my personal experience that I shared after my internet and personal interactions with many girls.
For any field to excel you need to work really hard and struggle. The initial investment of time and money goes in every creative field . You need to judge your own skills and believe in your ownself first .
So all the best to all new Makeup Artists . I love makeup and I won't mind spending money in learning it professionally to know in and out if it. If not in metropolitan states their are many states in India where the new and good MUAs are required. Delhi and Mumbai are totally saturated .
